Words for a change
It’s been a while since I wrote something on this blog (how’s everyone been enjoying my blips and video posts?) and since I’ve been SUPER mega busy I have plenty of things to talk about in my first post in a while. I like to go backwards and jump around, so stay with me.
Last night, I found myself at The Roxy for the Scion party they throw there (I think it’s Iheartcomix affiliated, Franki?) The sets I managed to catch were Villians and Treasure Fingers. Holy dancing their faces off, Batman! The crowd got seriously live for hometown boys, Villians and when Treasure Fingers hit the stage the ill factor tripled! If you missed his set, try to catch it in Costa Mesa next Thursday at Sutra. You will not be sorry for making the trek down to the OC for some TF.
Tuesday I FINALLY got to see “Up” in 3D. Why you would see this any other way is beyond me. In fact it was SO important for me to see it in 3D this was actually the second attempt in three days to catch the film as our first attempt was thwarted by unparalleled levels of douchebaggery performed by rando-dude saving a whole row at the 12:30 AM (yes, half past midnight) show at the AMC 15. Everything you’ve heard is true: this film is lovely in every way and will make you cry your sentimental eyes out. As my friend put it, when I revealed that it was uncanny how much like MY grandparents they are: “Angela, they ALL have the chairs”.
Monday night saw the first episode of the new Conan O’Brien Tonight Show. I Hulu’d it as usual (who the hell owns a tv and pays for cable anymore?) and was stoked to see Pearl Jam performing. Not sure what Andy Richter was doing there just yet, methinks they’re going to revive some old LNwCO sketches and work him in, so I hope that happens soon. Yay Conan, welcome to L.A.!
Sunday I got a chance to do something fun: we went to the W Hotel in Westwood for a poolside screening of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in The Backyard. We sipped SUPER expensive green tea since it was a little chilly, but they expected that and had large purple blankets for everyone! The menu is a little pricey so eat before you go, but I heard the Tuna Tartare is amazing so save some room in your belly and some dough in your wallet. I will be there in a few weeks again for sure, hopefully wearing less and watching from the pool sans the blanket of course.
Last week I went to see Passion Pit and Harlem Shakes (review on The Owl Mag soon) and it was a great show! Both band were on point and we had AMAZING seats thanks to the lovely fellas at The Troubadour (one of my two favourite venues in L.A.).
I’ve been spending a lot of time on my work which I will have updates about shortly. I’m working the Mayweather/Marquez fight in July, it’s going to be INSANE!
I bought a bike as well so I’ve been cruising around the city with my new wheels. Please be advised: I am a lovely person who would like to keep her head and body intact, brake for bike riders.
I will be at the Palm Pre Launch Party tomorrow night (thanks Techfrog!) so I’m sure that will present all sorts of fun stories. Also, I’ve joined a music sharing community (a private one, sorry folks) with some industry friends so I’m sure I’ll have some new recommendations for music to check out!
One last thing, I watched President (AWESOME) Obama give a speech in Cairo online tonight and texted to me. That’s right, I got TEXT messages of the President’s finer talking points sent to my blackberry. I highly recommend streaming it and taking it all in for yourself. There’s just something about the way that man says “let me be clear” that just makes me want to make him the godfather of my first born… whenever that happens.
later for now, more later!
