mom, meet sansa player… sansa player, meet mom

ok it’s official: i’m in love. this little guy is the bees knees and for SURE the perfect tool for the blogger, interviewer, music fan, walker, ear-owner, etc. i got my hot little hands around him at the sansa playground at sxsw and haven’t let go since. in addition to having 2 GB of space (1 GB on the player itself and the other on the 1GB card that’s roughly the size of a flat tooth) you can exchange those small cards anytime you want to make the tiny little player as “big” as a full-sized ipod without the bulk. it’s got an OLED screen which shows artist, album and title as well as progress and volume control.
another feature that just makes me SO happy is a rather odd complaint i’ve had for some time with regard to having a portable mp3 player in the first place: no new music. i’m stuck with my own collection or the randomness of the podcasts i *somewhat* trust to open my ears to new music. i would get one of those portable satellite players, but then i’m pretty much ONLY at the mercy of what they’re playing and when i get out of range (which happens a lot in L.A. i’m told) it’s silence — ick. but with this little badass, i can tune into local fm radio OR play my own music.
working for an indie label means i get a lot of free music which i’m happy to load onto my ipod to get me from point a to point b and share my opinion with the rest of the world if i like it. but i would be way lame if i didn’t at least check in with local radio, especially when there are a ton of great stations around the play music i like and the bands i work for: kat corbett’s “locals only” show is great on sunday nights and in the past when i was running around doing life, i’d have to miss it because my ipod doesn’t have a tuner. i also caught mark sovel’s show the other day because i happened to be out and about when it was on. and of course i have so much love for jonesy, but if i was on my way to the bank on my lunch break, i’d have to miss half of it. not with my new lover, sansa express.
the other uber-awesome feature that was the deal-sealer for me is the built in mic. what? yes, a built in microphone in the little guy that allows me to record conversations, quotes, interviews, snippits of live shows, etc. and it saves them right there on the player.
THEN when i get home, i can plug the player itself (oh, i didn’t mention that it has its own usb “direct connect” jack on the side of the player? oh well it does) right into ANY computer (no, not just the one that it’s “synced” with or “connected” to or “registered” with) and transfer the files to and from the computer in one drag and drop step.
not that i’m a mindreader, but you MIGHT be thinking to yourself… as I did… hmmm if i can drag and drop the folders of recorded files from the player to any computer from the device, could you drag and drop the music files from the player to any computer as well? and vice versa? well that’s a great question… and the answer is yes, you can.
back off, he’s mine.
but you can get your own here in either 2GB or 1GB versions.

open letter to sansa:
dear sansa genius people,
i love your cards, your readers, your products, your express mp3 players, your amazing taste and sleek designs. it would be lovely if i had a device on which i could capture quality photos and videos and send them directly to my blog. if you’re creating such a device, or there’s already one in existence. i would be happy to power my site with it, exclusively.
your devoted servant,
angeleenie
p.s. thanks for including ladytron, dappled cities fly, eulogies, darker my love and division day in your goodies…
