The Bordello was PACKED to the brim for tonight’s show: The Movies record release party, but it was The Happy Hollows that brought the masses as they exploded into their set with the song heard in the clip above. The band rocked out performing for the likes of members of every L.A. band that’s graced the scene for the last two years: Silversun Pickups, Twilight Sleep, Pity Party, Airborne Toxic Event, Division Day, Irving/Afternoons, and so many others hiding in corners and smoking out front. I had to leave before The Movies came on (at the risk of sounding like an old fart) I was hungry and tired and had to be up early.
The Savages, pictured below, killed their set with a collection of trippy, psychedelic music that often shoos the hipsters out (due mostly to lack of snare/high-hat dancebeat). But no one could ignore the groove-ability of their songs and the laid-back delivery that made it soaring, not sleepy. Then won the award for “least effected by the less-than-stellar sound” at the Bordello which will probably not be a regular haunt for me, unless one of the bands I’m “seeing” plays there soon. Then it’ll be like going with my boyfriend to a baseball game anywhere other than Yankee Stadium — boring, but necessary to keep him happy.
Anyone going to see Eddie Vedder this weekend at the Wiltern who wants to take me is encouraged to email me at angela@musicismybf.com
